Can you help the EV1000 project in 2014?

No, don’t worry, I’m not after your money (although it’s always welcome if you feel so inclined).
This time I’m after some manpower (or womanpower) for the events we go to; helping to load/unload, setting-up the stand, chatting to people about the bike, handing out leaflets, selling t-shirts etc. If you can help at this end – loading before the show, unloading afterwards - that’s fine, or if you can spare some time to help at the event itself, that’s also appreciated.
For the last 3 years I’ve done the shows by myself (sometimes with the help of my wife, Sue) but it can be a long and tiring day. Also the new bike is considerably heavier than the old one and there’s no way I can load it single-handed, so I need a few willing hands to help us out.
If you’re helping at the event you’ll usually get free admission (depending on the organiser, but it’s worth a few £££ at big events like Wings and Wheels), some free goodies, free lunch and tea/coffee, and plenty of time to wander around the show itself.
Let me know if you can help. I’m not expecting anyone to commit to every event, but if I can get a list of helpers that I can call on that would be really appreciated.
Drop me a line on phil@weald-tech.co.uk to register your interest.

Engage with a bright Physics student in 2014

Could your business use a bright Physics undergraduate?

We've taken a summer placement student for the last two years from SEPnet and they are brilliant students - keen to learn, great researchers, full of fresh ideas, enthusiastic... what more could an employer want?

The scheme is open now for you to pitch your projects.

Numbers are limited so if you think you have a project that would benefit from 8 weeks of help (and will help a student get real-world experience and understand what industry needs) take a look at THIS LINK

We're on display at the 2014 Low Carbon Racing Conference

The world’s leading high performance low carbon conference returns to Birmingham NEC on 8th January, the day before Autosport International opens its doors for 2014 and we'll be there!

Hosted by the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), and now in its 8th year, the International Low Carbon Racing Conference has long been recognised as a powerful forum for those at the forefront of vehicle-based energy efficient innovation - gathering leading figures from motorsport, automotive and beyond under one roof for an entire day of in-depth panel discussions and announcements covering past successes, new ideas and developments, future plans and new business opportunities.

2013’s conference attracted delegates from over 100 different organisations, and this year promises to be even more successful. Previous panellists have included Alejandro Agag (Formula E), Ben Bowlby (Delta Wing Racing Cars), Tony Harper (Jaguar Land Rover), Patrick Head (Williams Grand Prix Engineering), Richard Parry-Jones CBE (Automotive Council), David Richards CBE (Aston Martin, Prodrive) and Graham Stoker (FIA). Leading names confirmed for January’s conference include IndyCar V.P of Technology, Will Phillips, Audi Sport’s Head of Engine Development, Ulrich Baretzky and recently-appointed Head of Electrical Systems, Electronics & Energy Systems, Thomas Laudenbach.

The day’s proceedings will be underscored by a stunning in-room showcase - demonstrating the very latest low carbon advances, and allowing all in attendance to explore cutting-edge vehicles and technology from some of the leading names in motorsport and automotive, up-close. Flybrid Automotive, Ricardo, Tesla Motors and Williams Advanced Engineering are among those already confirmed to showcase their latest innovations in 2014.

2014’s central theme is the now-proven success of alternative energy powertrains, on race tracks and roads across the globe. The past 12 months alone have represented a key milestone in this energy-efficient journey, bolstered by significant international achievements in Le Mans, Pikes Peak and others. This is a trend set to continue into 2014 and beyond with leading global race series including Formula 1, United Sports Car and World Endurance Championships, placing even greater emphasis on energy efficiency and, of course, Formula E launching in September 2014.

With mainstream automotive also fully embracing the genuine value of motorsport, a rapidly increasing number of road cars from the likes of Audi, Jaguar, Nissan and Volvo, to name only a few, now boast ‘race bred’ low carbon innovations. Such is this level of recognition, that government bodies such as the UK Automotive Council, have identified closer engagement between motorsport and automotive as key to success in the global auto industry.

As such, motorsport, both as a powerhouse of innovation, and a force for change has had a significant impact which transcends industrial and international boundaries.
